Freshwater Uptake of Mangrove Growing in an Extremely Arid Area

This study evaluated the freshwater use of two mangrove species (R. mucronate: Rhizophora mucronata and A. marina: Avicennia marina) growing in a coastal area Djibouti City on Moucha Island Djibouti. We accomplished this by comparing hydrogen oxygen stable isotope ratios (δ2H δ18O) body water with those creek water, soil groundwater, rainwater samples. Line-conditioned excess (lc-excess) was calculated for δ2H δ18O values groundwater Although regression lines were drawn using plant as well environmental no significant differences found, suggesting that effects fractionation due to evaporation all samples almost similar. Comparison lc-excess suggested from Is. strongly influenced seawater, but contained some sources other than water. It also found marina groundwater. The origin absorbed mangroves island not clear, it could be recharged faraway place.
